Who I Am
From the Navy to the United Nations, my career has always revolved around one mission: making sense of global power shifts. I’m Themistoklis Zanidis, founder of GeoSec Insights. For more than a decade, I’ve studied and explained geopolitics from three vantage points, the field, the desk, and the classroom.
Military – 15+ years as an Officer in the Hellenic Navy, leading surveillance, security ops, and NATO/EU/UN missions protecting sea routes and civilians.
Government & Policy – Analyst for the Greek Parliament and Ministries of Foreign Affairs & Defense, briefing senior officials and embassies on national security and strategy.
United Nations – At the UN Development Coordination Office in New York, I supported peace and development operations across global teams.
Research & Writing – I’ve published 12 peer-reviewed papers and policy briefs on U.S.– China competition, NATO, and strategic culture. (See more on —> Academia Profile)
Academia – M.A. in Political Science (Rutgers, UN & Global Policy) and M.A. in International Relations (University of Piraeus), with a foundation in history and cultural studies.
